Colonial missionaries' papers from America and the West Indies, 1701-1870
Reproduced here are the text of the original royal charter granted by King William III for the Society, together with a copy of a brief document entitled Instructions for the clergy employ'd by the Society.
Covering the period 1701-1870, the fifty volumes of this Journal record the proceedings of the Society and, for the 18th century, it provides a very complete record. Included are letters from missionaries in the field, either copied in full or as extracts. Some of these letters are duplicated in the...
The greater part of the Society's work during the 18th century was concentrated in the American colonies, although work in the West Indies began as early as 1712. Most of these reports refer to pre-revolutionary America and provide first-hand information on its social and political history.
