The first Gazette for Nigeria was published after the Royal Jubilee in 1887. Early editions covered the 'Colony of Lagos'; the Gazette's name then changed as the colony grew. Some names of officers and occasionally other employees too, are present from the first edition. Legal content includes High Court judgments, legislation and ordinances. Shipping arrival and departure records and some hospital records are also present. These items include a reprint of the Abeokuta treaty between the Governor and the King of the Egba kingdom. These records also cover World War 1. These gazettes were published alongside the Annual Departmental Reports for Nigeria.
