As Europe realized that a war was coming, a range of countries began to prepare for the fighting. The Anschluss (joining) of Germany and Austria, led to nationalist protests by people of German heritage. Pro-Nazi groups then began emerge in Brazil and Czechoslovakia. Some countries also had their own conflicts to address, from the Spanish civil war to the unrest in Romania and Palestine.
