Description These estimates of revenue illustrate how the Government made and spent its revenue during this period. While expenditure was incurred upon various aspects of running the country; income came from the following sources, most relating to the river: Customs; Port Dues; Licenses, Excise, etc; Fees of Courts or Office etc; Post Office; Rent of Government Property; Government Vessels; Interest; 'Protectorate', including Hut Tax, Farm Rents, and Traders Licenses; and 'Miscellaneous Receipts' which chiefly consist of the proceeds of sale of old stores.
