Huddersfield Vs Sheffield Wednesday 1966 & 1977

Play off games are very similar to cup games and Town have met Wednesday in two cup competitions at totally different levels. The FA Cup and the Shipp Cup. Everyone knows about the FA Cup and the two teams met in the 5th round in 1966 in front of 49,514 at Leeds Road. Wednesday were 2-1 winners (Steve Smith scoring for Town) and went on to reach the cup final, eventually losing to Everton 3-2 in a thrilling final. At the other end of the scale the two teams met in the little known Shipp Cup, which was a pre season tournament run by the Cambridge FA and featured Cambridge, Peterborough and the two invited teams, namely Town and Wednesday. Town won the trophy at Hillsborough beating Wednesday 2-0 in front of just 3,840. Scorers for Town were Terry Eccles and Mick Butler
