This month marks the third month in the Islamic calendar, Rabi ul-Awal. This month, which follows the month Safar, translates as “the first spring”, but due to the Islamic calendar being a lunar calendar it does not correspond to the seasonal spring. The month, which began on the 27th September following a new moon sighting, is a significant month for Muslims around the world.
This month is seen as more of a metaphorical spring of new beginnings for Muslims, as it is the birth month of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This day is celebrated on the 12th day of Rabi ul-Awal, which is 8th October 2022 this year, and is marked with the Eid Milad-un-Nabi celebration on the 12th day. The Eid Milad-un-Nabi, also referred to as Mawlid, celebration is marked as a national holiday in most of the Muslim-majority countries. The month provides an opportunity for Muslims to appreciate and reflect the importance of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his teachings.
